Black and White Tv?

I don't really consider myself a political fanatic or junkie. As a matter a fact I don't especially care for politics much at all. However I watched the debate between John McCain and Barack Obama a few days ago. I wasn't exactly sure where each candidate stands on issues like welfare, balancing the budget, the war, or other controversial issues that our country is facing but something about the candidates did strike my eye. Every question sent McCain’s way was fielded with a worrisome look and lots of blinking, where as I noticed that Obama seemed more composed about the questions being asked. I couldn't tell you whether the "facts" they were throwing back and forth were true but regardless Obama seemed more at ease like he knew exactly what needed to be done. With this in mind I thought about who were the greater presidents throughout the nations history. I began noticing a trend that most of the "Great" presidents that we've had throughout our nations history have been great orators. I know it may seem ignorant and I'll admit its probably not the best way to go about voting for a presidential candidate but I feel like Obama has a greater ability to captivate an audience like the American people and in turn get the nation on the same page for some of it's more pressing issues. If anyone saw the debate let me know what you thought about each candidates public speaking and how the fielded the questions.

Go Cowboys!

This Season in the NFL has been crazy, the teams that have been more than dominant in recent years are getting off to poor starts, teams that used to be terrible are showing a sign of life, Tom Brady’s season is over and the Cowboys are 3-0. Being quite the Cowboys fan I am rather excited about this start to the season and the starts of most of the other NFL teams. The Cowboys have arguably the toughest division in the NFL right now, however they recently beat their archrivals, from Philly, the Eagles. The Eagles, having THE largest offensive line in the league couldn't keep their QB, Mcnaab, away from the Cowboys defensive line or secure the victory in Dallas. After beating the Packers last night with relative ease I don't for see any potential challengers until week 9, when the Cowboys play the New York, "Football Giants." If anyone thinks otherwise I would like to hear their thoughts and or opinions.

the 1 Percenters

In the age of the internet, information can trade hands infinately faster than it ever could have prior. For marketing purposes this created an entire new platform to acrue data and promote products that just about any type of company could offer. However there is one form of marketing that these companies can't quite put their thumbs on and manipulate. This is of course the user generated content on the internet, in the forms of blogs, that are created through such sites as: http://www.blogspot.com/, http://www.flickr.com/, and http://www.digg.com/.
Through these bloggs people can write reviews about products and services that they feel strongly about, for better or worse. These everyday joes(citizens) hold a unique power in their hands to write about how these products and services actually function rather than hearing it from the associated companies. These "1 Percenters" only do this for a hobby and get their nickname from the fact that only about 1% of the people using a product or service will actually generate their own web based opinions about it.
This fact interests me, as a marketing major, I am curious to see how this will affect business quality control or if it will increase the creativity of the marketing campaigns in an attempt to manipulate what is posted on bloggs such as these. If anyone has ideas about how this could affect retail and service industry I would be open to hear about it.
